Permits

Construction projects on airport lands must follow the facility permit process. This includes the alteration of existing structures. The permit process applies to construction by both third parties and YVR.

Development Permits

A party seeking to construct, change or demolish a structure on YVR lands may require a Development Permit. Please see the Development Permit Guidelines for more information. If it is required, the Development Permit Application must be submitted along with the required documents. This is generally done at concept design stage. The Land Development Manual has requirements and guidance for constructing on Airport Authority leased lands.

Facility Permits

All construction projects that involve any changes to the facility are required to get a Facility Permit prior to the start of construction. This requires final design drawings to be submitted that demonstrate compliance with the Building Code and other Applicable Codes and Standards. A Facility Permit Application must be completed for construction that makes changes to airport facilities. This includes work within leased buildings. For more information, see Facility Permit Guidelines. In most cases, the review of the permit application is done in two to three weeks. However, it is recommended that at least four to six weeks is allowed in case re-submissions are required.

Cloudpermit Online Permit Submission

Please apply for your Facility Alteration Permits through our online portal Cloudpermit. This software allows applicants the ability to seamlessly apply online and view application status’ throughout YVR’s review process. Please ensure all documents are provided as noted on page two of the application form. You will be prompted to upload these documents into Cloudpermit. If you have any questions, please contact permits@yvr.ca. We encourage you to discuss your application with a YVR permit specialist prior to submission. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

The Airport Authority Board of Directors established the permitting process through a by-law and by the Development Rules established by the Executive Committee of the Airport Authority.
