What happens to your noise concern?

Key priorities of the YVR Aeronautical Noise Management Program include responding to community questions and concerns and providing up-to-date information on airport operations and noise management initiatives. When a concern is received, YVR Noise Management staff will investigate using the airport’s Aircraft Noise Monitoring and Flight Tracking System and reviewing operational records. A response is then provided via the preferred method of contact with information to help residents better understand the sources of their concern.

Here’s what our Noise Management Office can do:

  • Provide information about airport and aircraft operations and flight paths.
  • Explain runway operations and advise of any airfield maintenance or project work that may temporarily affect runway use.
  • Provide details on our noise management initiatives and published Noise Abatement Procedures.

And here's what we cannot do:

  • Disclose information on aircraft registration, operator, or flight number.
  • Change flight paths, flight schedules, or aircraft/airport operations.
  • Provide health and safety advice related to aircraft noise or emissions.

Our FAQ page also provides answers to frequently asked questions about airport and aircraft operations and our Noise Management Program.

All concerns from residents regarding aircraft noise and the results of our investigations are logged into a database. Personal information is treated confidentially, and information is used to identify trends, generate reports, and support discussions with airport management and the YVR Aeronautical Noise Management Committee.

While we are responsible for responding to community questions and concerns about aircraft noise, we do not have regulatory or enforcement authority for the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). If we suspect an operator did not follow applicable regulations or the published Noise Abatement Procedures for YVR, the information is sent to Transport Canada Civil Aviation Enforcement for further investigation and follow-up
